Innovations for livestock
Ruminants have a complex digestive system comprising:
– a four-compartment stomach (rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum), which enables the digestion of plants and fibre.
– small and large intestines.
SIPENA controlled-release products enable either:
– release in the rumen, as, for example, with SIPUR®, which allows the controlled release of urea over 6 to 8 hours in the rumen, thus driving the growth and key functions of ruminal microorganisms, or
– passage of active ingredients unchanged through the stomach and release in the intestine for optimal effect, such as with vitamins, amino acids, and certain minerals.
The digestive system of domestic fowl comprises an abdominal region (proventriculus and ventriculus or gizzard) and the small intestine, which consists of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
SIPENA uses its state-of-the-art technology to make species-specific controlled-release products, depending on the requirements of domestic fowl and the aims in terms of bioavailability of active ingredients.
Pigs are omnivorous and so can be fed plant- and animal-based feed. Their digestive system comprises a stomach and a small and large intestine.
SIPENA’s controlled-release ingredients can be delivered to the stomach or the intestine, depending on the pig feed requirements.

Differences in particle size in product mixtures can lead to particle segregation. SIPENA solves such problems by using effective and appropriate coating to improve particle uniformity.
Improvement of product palatability
Active ingredients of recognized nutritional value may, nonetheless, be unpalatable to livestock because of their smell. SIPENA’s coatings mask unpleasant odours and so increase product palatability.
Increased product stability
SIPENA uses its coating and protection technology to help customers enhance the stability of products sensitive to external conditions such as light, temperature and oxidation.
Improved product storage
By coating a nutritional or functional active ingredient, SIPENA increases its shelf-life, hence improving its storage and effectiveness.
